Being stranded in the middle of nowhere is one of the most stressful situations to have to deal with, and when your car breaks down unexpectedly, that’s exactly the situation that you find yourself in. If you’re positive that your car cannot move on its own, there’s only one thing you can do, have the car towed. #1: Try moving to a secure location
One of the things that should always be in your mind while driving on the road is where you’d pull over if an emergency were to occur. As soon as you notice something may be wrong with your car, pull up to the side of the road, as far from traffic as possible. This will ensure that not only you and your vehicle remain as safe as possible, but other vehicles on the road as well. The further you are from the main road, the lower the chance that another vehicle will run into yours!
#2: Research the towing company
Even though you might just call any random towing company in a panic, it’s important that you find enough composure not to do that. Always go for the towing company that has good reviews, because even though your vehicle may be in an immobile condition, it’s still the vehicle you paid hard-earned money for and it should be in the best hands possible!
#3: Call the police
Right before you call a towing company, you should call the police. Different areas have different rules about how long a vehicle can be parked idly on the side of the roads. If the authorities aren’t informed, you might have to deal with them towing your car and impounding it instead. This can happen a lot faster if your vehicle is in an area where it’s blocking the flow of traffic because the traffic will just lead the police to you and you’ll have to explain the whole situation to them. Another reason to inform the authorities is that if your vehicle is blocking the emergency lane, it could result in an ambulance or police car getting stuck behind your vehicle too! #5: Arrange for “After towing”
Make sure you’re calling the towing truck that’s going to drop your vehicle off at the location you want it to be towed to. Some towing companies will only take the vehicles to their own lot, while others will let you choose the drop-off location. If you’ve decided to have it dropped off at your mechanic, call them up and inform them of the vehicle’s arrival. Then, arrange for how you’re going to get there. Some towing trucks have enough space that one person can ride along with the vehicle that’s being towed, while others don’t. In that case, you’ll need to get a taxi. Make sure you have made all the necessary arrangements beforehand!
