Introduced in the year 2005, this powerful hatchback has become a best seller in almost no time. The car underwent modifications in the years 2007 and 2011. The 2011 version of Swift saw some drastic changes and it saw renewed interest among the buyers. In the year 2014, this small car went through another facelift. The periodic updates and facelifts have helped the car to remain relevant and competitive in the present times. Although most changes are cosmetic in nature, it is said that the fuel efficiency of the car, in particular, has increased with this facelift.


The New Swift is available for a price starting from INR 4.42 lakh to 6.95 lakh (Ex-showroom). Possessing a youthful styling and powerful engine, this car is continuing to rule the Indian roads. It has high resale value, which adds to its desirability. Overall, the car has a premium look and feel, which appeals to many. The new swift comes with a better wheelbase, which translated into better space inside the cabin.



The new Swift is powered by a 1.3-liter multijet diesel engine, with the capacity to generate a maximum power of 74 bhp @ 4000rpm and a peak torque of 190 Nm @ 2000rpm. The petrol variant is slightly less powerful than the older variants as the 1.2-litre KB12 engine with a 1197cc, offers a maximum power of 83.1 bhp @ 6000rpm and a peak torque of 114 Nm @ 4000rpm. This toning down of power has resulted in 10% increase in fuel efficiency. As a result, the new Swift offers a best in segment mileage of 25.2 kmpl.


In terms of features, the Swift might be lagging behind some of its rivals like Hyundai. However, Maruti has not compromised on safety and comfort on the Swift. As such, it offers features like SRS dual front airbags, braking assist features, ABS , computerized anti-theft system, automatic lock system, front and rear fog lamps, highly mounted stop lamps, side impact beams, front and rear ELR seat belts, child lock, double horn and many more. As an affordable car, the Swift is worth every paisa paid for it.
