Maruti SUV – The Grand Vitara


Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is the number one automobile manufacturer in India. They have a very good hold in the hatchback and sedan segments of the Indian automobile market. The Grand Vitara has an aggressive front with projector type head lamps, a chrome grille and body coloured bumper with fog lamps. The side profile is sporty with 17” alloy wheels in well defined arches, body coloured electrical ORVMs with turn indicators and a very pronounced pillar. At the rear there are large tail lamp clusters, a spare tyre and body coloured bumpers. There is a rear wiper and rear defogger and fog lamps at the front and the rear.


The 5-seater Grand Vitara has a spacious cabin with leather seats, an automatic AC, a 2 Din music system with CD/MP3 players, AM/FM radio and USB connectivity, leather wrapped multi functional steering wheel and a 60:40 split rear seat. The safety features include 2 airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, engine immobiliser, electronic stability programme, power windows, a tilt steering column and central and child lock facilities.


Technical Specifications

The Grand Vitara is powered by a 2393 cc, 164 bhp, 225 NM torque, 4 cylinder in-line petrol engine with MPFI fuel system. The transmission is 5 gear manual or 4 gear automatic for the two variants. The fuel efficiency is 9.24 to 104 kmpl which is one of the best in the segment. The minimum turning radius of the car is 5.5 m.

The dimensions of the Grand Vitara are 4500 mm length, 1810 mm width, 1695 mm height, 2640 mm wheel base and 200 mm ground clearance. The boot volume is 398 litres and the fuel tank capacity is 66 litres.

The MSIL is planning to launch the Vitara the diesel version of the SUV in 2015.  Also two more SUVs the Compact SUV the SX4 S-Cross and the Maruti Suzuki XA-Alpha are expected to be launched in 2015. Maruti Grand Vitara is already facing competition from the SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavour and the Maruti XUV 500.
